Instructional Swim Lessons

Monthly Swim Lessons: June-December

Our program is nationally recognized and is progressive in that participants build on what they already know!  If your youngster is new to the world of aquatics there is no better place than the YMCA to learn!  For a complete list of all of our Aquatic programs, please contact the Reception Desk.

Parent/Child (ages 6-36 months)

This 30-minute class is designed to allow children to have fun in the water while a parent guides them in learning aquatic skills. The child will be exposed to games that use basic movements in the water such as kicking, arm strokes and breath control. Activities are based on the developmental abilities of the child. Children must wear waterproof diapers under swimsuits.

Class days and times: TBA

Preschool (ages 3-5 years)

Level 1: Pike & Eel
Level 2: Ray & Starfish
To progress from Level 1 to Level 2 the child will need to be able to swim across the short side of the pool unassisted (approximately 20 feet).

The preschool instructional swim classes are progressive in design and include Pike, Eel, Ray and Starfish. Each class builds on the skills learned in the previous class and all include water adjustment, personal safety skills, basic swimming skills, muscle development and endurance, games and enjoyment in the water.
Children will be separated based on ability.

Class days and times: TBA

Leaders Club

This program is for teens, 13-18 years old that are committed to making the YMCA and our community a better place. Teens learn leadership skills while having the opportunity to apply these skills through volunteer opportunities at the YMCA as well as other community service projects. Leaders Club has a long standing tradition of excellence that culminates in an annual trip to the YMCA Blue Ridge Leaders School in Black Mountain, NC. Contact Brian Hernandez at 863-644-3528 for more information.

Annual Club Dues: $50

Youth in Government

For students in Grades 8 – 12

“Democracy must be learned by each generation.” That is the mantra of this program. Our YMCA is entering into our 42nd year of this very special program which has given an opportunity for hundreds of teens to learn about how their state government actually works! The YMCA Youth In Government is a program which had its beginning in the 1930s, the State of Florida held its first YMCA Youth Conference in 1956. The YMCA conducts this youth leadership, civic engagement program throughout the school year. Students experience the workings of state government by studying issues of local and state importance. Students prepare Bill Proposals, Criminal and Civil Supreme Court Cases and learn Parliamentary Procedures. Students attend an annual conference, which takes over the State Capitol and Supreme Court in Tallahassee in early 2009.
If you are interested in bringing the Youth in Government program to your school, contact Samantha Lane at 863- 644-3528.

Jr. Youth in Government

In 2005, the Youth In Government experience was extended to students in the 7th and 8th grades. Much like their high school counterparts, Jr. YIG’s middle school delegates form local chapters affiliated with their local YMCA branch. However, high school students act in the role of mentor and student advisor, teaching these future YIG rockstars all that they need to know! This unique setup makes our Jr. YIG program the ultimate service-learning project. Jr. YIG chapters are currently set-up at a few YMCAs across the state. These chapters may be a part of a Sr. YIG chapter or exist on their own. Please contact your local YMCA or Samantha Lane at 863-644-3528 for more information.
